Project Overview
The 20 Merrifield Property is a one‑of‑a‑kind home tucked into a quiet Bernardston, MA neighborhood beside the river. Designed for comfort, function, and modern living, the residence features more than 3,000 square feet on the first floor with a walk‑out lower level. From the beginning, the First Gen HVAC & Plumbing team was tasked with delivering a complete mechanical system — integrating water, air, and energy efficiency into one seamless design.

Project Details and Process
Plumbing work began on October 13, with our team completing the rough installation and passing inspection by November 5. The home draws from a private well that supplies clean, high‑quality water directly to the basement utility room, where we connected the main plumbing system to serve every area of the house.
Each space was designed for convenience and performance, featuring two full bathrooms and one half bath, including a luxury master suite with a double vanity, custom shower, and private toilet room. The kitchen includes an island sink and a dedicated pantry bar nook, while four outdoor spigots provide easy access for landscaping and maintenance.
Beyond plumbing, our team installed a Radon mitigation system to maintain healthy indoor air quality. We also performed detailed heat load calculations to size a high‑efficiency heat pump system that delivers both heating and cooling from a single unit. To complete the mechanical design, we integrated an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) to continuously exchange indoor and outdoor air — keeping the home fresh while conserving energy.
Because the entire home is spray foam insulated, the completed system will operate with exceptional efficiency and minimal energy loss, perfectly balancing comfort and sustainability.
